Since Fatrap invited me over here, he has no right to get pissed off, even if I spill some nasty fluids on his counter!

I dunno about that.... I think that GSC is doing a pretty good job of THAT right now!! Oh.... wait.... maybe we should say screwing around????

Hey DC! You can spill stuff on my counter any old time! When everyone has left for the night I just drop a few explosive barrels in here and set them off from the door as I leave.... does a wonderful job of cleaning!

Glad to say that I knew that it was you, welcome again DC. your mod (together with gannebamm) was one of the top mods ever written; I enjoyed it greatly.
And also thanks for your compliments on the forum,

I particularly like the easy way you can put bolds, quotes and others during posting, and at least it may offer another place to chat when(if) GSC forums get into maintenance.

I dunno Nightwatch.... I may just give up the GSC forum altogether! You know, it really has always bugged me that we modders are not recognized in any form or fashion by GSC... in fact, just the opposite! Their wonderful patches caused us to re-write our mods almost every time... without bothering to consult with anyone who had worked at fixing their bugs.... like bardak, NatVac or myself. And speaking of NatVac.... look at the hundreds of hours he has given GSC by providing support for all the folks that had problems. Did he get recognized for it? Not by GSC! Shoot... the least they could have done is sent him a complimentary copy of Clear Sky.

They should give Natvac a free copy of CS, and a triple SLI monster rig to play it on... so he can finally run FDL, then he could fix all the bugs as payment :shock:

DC-- Nice to see you here buddy!! Hope your getting set to work on CS... Maybe you could make the Faction Wars a bit more alive if you know what I mean :idea:

BTW I just came from GSC where I read 2 posts then it borked itself.
And..the Clear Sky posts are still gone from the subjects. I feel sorry
for the Moderators over there...they seem like good guys.
This forum might just become home for some of us.

The moderators at GSC are truly great folks... no doubt about it! And there are really wonderful people that use the forum... but GSC itself is a different story. Or at least their apparent attitude about things...

I read somewhere (a website review of the game I think) they sacked the lead programmer for releasing the buggy mess that is Clear Sky, then again I also read he had in fact walked out...

Either way, sounds like its not all rosy in the garden at GSC!!

Maybe THQ should have run quality control :toothy7:

Oh so that's the smell, as soon as I came here I felt the urge to barbecue.

You're absolutely right about GSC's lack of community and mod support. After all it was the modders who saved their game from being played once and then being shelved by a lot of their customers. It's such a shame they don't see that.

And not communicating with the community is one thing, but posting on the russian forums while completely neglecting the international part of the community is another. I really get mad thinking about this, they really should forget about DX10 support or whatever and invest the money in hiring a guy who can acutally speak english and creates a gateway between devs and the community.

Yep, sure this forum is more comfortable, probably because it's actually a real forum and not like that piece of junk at GSC.

Hi, lots of familiar faces around here.

Unfortunately I don't think I could make anything more alive (new verb -> "aliverate" or something

) in Clear Sky because the whole faction war thing is probably scripting. I'm not a scripter, I'm an all.spawn'er ;) Lua is still pretty much gibberish to me.
I don't even have a tool to open the all.spawn, old acdc versions probably won't work.
I still dream of finishing aliVe 1.7, adding a new story and new quests was a lot of fun until I ran out of ideas and got bored of SHOC.

Very true words fatrap, well put. I'm shocked to learn that the established modders (I'm not counting myself among you top modders by any means) are not presented even copy of Clear Sky. :!: It's shame. Really. Look, for example, as an anniversary, Red Storm Entertainment (the developers of famous -original- Ghost Recon series, has sent all their modders and long time supporters fully signed (signed by all top developers) special copies of Ghost Recon series. That's at least a small recognition of the fans' and modders' help over the time, saying that "we know you guys, and we appreciate your help." Well, you have a very good point there.
Appreciation and recognition is very important, very.

I agree with what you say guys,Audioave10 and EggChen. Things do not look good unfortunately; it doesn't mean that they are not good in reality, but this current mess particularly makes it look like this. They need a spin doctor maybe, a public relations manager.

They have very good programmers, some of the best in the world, probably; but the management -unfortunately- does not seem to be up to the same standards. Moderators are also very good and decent people, they face taking the brunt of things. I'm sorry for those guys, my full sympathies.

Do you think GSC is not happy with modders because they fixed and
improved so much even though the SDK was never released? Maybe
GSC didn't like that but knew they couldn't stop it.

Yep, that is the hardest part DC... coming up with ideas. I got a boost from EggChen and silverpower when I made my last mod. They started discussing a mod I was unfamiliar with... Proton's Freestate Mod.... and anyhow, it got my imagination going and the next thing you know... Run 'n Gun Special Edition! And it is my personal favorite of the mods I have done.... go figure!

EDIT: BTW looks like NatVac is alive and well and has joined our forum! Come on in buddy.... you will see a lot of familiar faces!

Hey, I played with the Freestate Mod when it first came out!

But ideas for a mod itself is one thing, story ideas is another, especially if it's not a standard type story but more mystirious and complicated... well, maybe you remember the mails a couple of months back.

I'm glad NatVac registered, I also miss Victim, Decane, ShadowState and Darius6.
