This is in beta atm and will be released with TK 2.ZERO. Give it a read over and let me know if the tips in it sound useful and would be useful to rookies.

STALKER: Twilight K.E.T. 2.ZERO
Tips guide

Welcome to STALKER: Twilight K.E.T. 2.ZERO tips guide. As you might guess, this guide is being written by ME, the author of TK to help less skilled (read: crap players) get the most out of TK 2.ZERO.

1. Stealth is your friend. I have taken a thorough approach to bring the most realistic stealth system STALKER can provide. By realistic, I'm not talking simply editing NPCs vision distance which screws them up, so if your having difficulty, try the stealth approach. Silence over shooting, if you will.

2. Gaining money. Loot everybody and everything. In particular, keep your eyes peeled in the agroprom underground and when looting Zombies, there might just be things of extreme value...

3. Armour. After specific points of the game special armours will become available. Check your local stockists regularly!

4. Traders. All traders have a "preferred" area they buy and sell in, paying more than other traders do. Example: Barkeep pays best for med supplies, drinks and foods, while the scientist at yantar pays best for artifacts. Experiment.

5. Enemies too hard to kill? Think again. This is the Zone, all enemies are ARMOURED. Instead of bodyshots, aim for the legs, or head. A change of ammunition type may also be required.

6. Guns. Consider your firearms carefully. You may want a assault rifle with good enough accuracy to double as a "cheap" sniper rifle. Saving on both items and weight needing to be carried. Selecting 2 weapons that use the same ammo type may also prove fruitful. For example the MP5 (fits in pistol slot) and Groza (can make use of 9x19mm bullets, as it can be barreled for in real life).

7. Weapon / Artifact attachments. Weapon attachments are particularly effective in TK. Scopes, silencers and grenade launchers can be fitted to a great multitude of weapons as well as giving a considerable tactical advantage. BEWARE, it's not always wise to leave your silencer attached. The silencer may make you difficult to detect (yes, silencers DO actually muffle your weapons) but as silencers do in real life, your weapons hit power is effected, so if you get discovered, no point in leaving that silencer on. Take it off and let the enemies feel the full power of your gun. Artifacts can also give you a great advantage, be sure to pick the right ones for your objective. The mamas bead artifact may be wonderful in providing bullet protection, but what good is that protection against enemies using armour piercing bullets? You'll perhaps be better served with a few extra med kits.

8. Explore. You never know what you may find...

9. Experiment. That one man killing machine status your looking for could be just one weapon / attachment away..

10. Don't get greedy. Greed leads to death.

Good hunting, Stalker.

Sounds good! :-bd
I'll definitely be paying more attention to the agroprom underground...
And as far as exploring/experimenting goes... I already am very good at staying off the beaten track, even if it means running into some psy-dogs...
Question: How did you handle monster relations? Is it vanilla, or did you mess with that too? I recently tweaked my monster relations folder and have seen some very cool stuff, that has actually resulted in improved gameplay. For example, I made boars aggressive towards everything but Flesh and Controllers. Now, them psuedo-dogs seem to think that boars are a tastier meal than I, so it seems more realistic to see boars be more territorial, and other animals make intelligent decisions as far as getting food goes. When given the choice between a flesh, or me, dogs realisticly realize that the flesh yields more food with less of a fight.

As far as min specs go, it sucks that my other 2g RAM got fried with my mobo on my other rig. I gots the card and cpu to support this mod, but not the RAM... :P Hopefully I can chug by on partial dynamic or static lighting...

Cheers!

Those tips sound very good. I may still get greedy though :D

@MeanderingBeing
I noticed this too. When I edited the mutants to hate each other for zone wars I noticed big changes. Most of it being improved but most of the time the mutants will begin to run away after being wounded by previous creatures. An example is the boar and snork. But as you said about the realistic stuff it is a big plus :D

I have indeed edited game relations :d Your likely to see such things as dogs chowing down on a felled mutant / NPC when their hungry, and different mutants actually FIGHTING eachother not where their hungry, but just because they hate eachother :-bd I call this the "mutant pecking order". I also made it so mutants hate you and NPCs equally. You'll no longer see them ignore NPCs where they have a one-track mind of all coming after you, and you only. NPCs get a nice overhaul too, now if you kill someone only his nearby chums try killing you, your not a instant enemy of the whole faction. Don't think you can get away with murder at the bar though, its a headquarters, you kill someone there Duty will hunt you donw, and a few Stalkers might decide they want to help Duty too. Likewise, depending on your reputation a few random Stalkers might decide to join in the fight and help you.

Hooray! This is good news indeed, Ket! The "everybody hates Strelok syndrome" gets under my skin. And as far as STALKERs joining you in your fight depending on Rep, this is even more good news. I've had a grudge against Duty ever since one "friendly fired" me, and his buddy got pissed when I stabbed the mofo. I have always made a point to climb atop the arena and "accidentally" drop a grenade into their base ever since, so its nice to hear that someone will support me in my personal war.

Thats deffinately not the intention :p TK will scare the crap out of you :d I wouldn't rely on NPCs randomly shooting by your side, as I said, they MIGHT decide to aid you ;) Keep your wits about you at all times too. Not all Stalkers like you, and will take "oppertune" moments to suddenly open fire on you.

Dammit! I'm being beaten by my own creation in the TK mod... I decided to go back to agroprom to pick up a stash worth in excess of 20,000RU, knowing I didn't take out the helicopter.. no problem I figure, I should be able to slide in and out before it really has a chance to detect me. WRONG! Instant I enter agroprom the chopper is flying toward me, I have a split second to decide what to do.. I leg it. First I make a emergency safehaven in the tunnel, then take the first chance to dart to the main facility where you first save mole, forgetting I pissed a bunch of military soldiers off there. I somehow shoot my way through some soldiers while avoiding bullets from the troopers and bullets and missiles from the chopper, I'm now inside the building cornered like a fox by the troopers AND chopper.

My weaponry;

Abakan w/ scope and GL.
.357 GP100

Advice anyone?! :mozilla_surprised:

Advice: I normally have this problem in agroprom, minus the helicopter. What I do is set up behind some cover, with a good view of the door (which serves as an excellent choke point). Use your pistol to pick off the guys who come in alone, getting center mass or headshots to conserve ammo, and unload a clip and switch to the abakan when they come en masse. Normally this convinces them to retreat to regroup, so I bounce a grenade out the door to take out the stragglers. This strategy works quite well with the grunts, but not so much with regular STALKERs as their teamwork skills aren't as organized making them a bit un-predictable. As for the helicopter, after killing all them soldiers, wait for it to buzz off, then gun it for some cover in that big military office building if you can. There, you can use the ample cover to get those critical shots at the rotors and hide...

Good luck, mate!

I took a similar approach to that in the end and managed to slide out back to garbage. I waited for the helicopter to do its volley of 6-8 missiles, then I poked my head out the door for some twin burst sniping with my abakan, as I heard the chopper approach I ducked back inside. Repeated that a few times to clear the grunts out then as the helicopter flew overhead I simply dashed for the exit before it could really fire too much at me, even then missiles were landing all around me. Just fortunate the helicopter didn't have a chance to lock onto me properly. I was ill prepared for agroprom due to my underestimation and forgeting about the soldiers I pissed off. I'll be going back with a rocket launcher in the near future to exact my revenge.

You know, I've never thought of this before, but does the Helicopter and APCs have location damage? I would definately like to be able to shoot at the exposed critical components on helicopters (like the rotor joints) or take advantage of the thinner armor on the glacis plates of the APC. Despite many reports telling you otherwise, helicopters CAN be taken down with small arms, if you know where to aim. The problem is actually pulling off those shots :P And all armoured vehicles have the glacis plate (the slanted one, most commonly on the front, but the soviets liked to put them on the backs of theirs) that is thinner than the rest of the armour, so attacks from above are more effective against armoured vehicles when they hit this plate.

I havent directly tested that, but thinking about my encounters with helicopters they sure as hell seemed to go down a lot easier when I was aiming at the rotors instead of the chopper itself.
