One group I worked with (I'm a former developer and system administrator) had project coffee cups made up. They had the project name on them, of course, but on the other side was a cartoon of the space shuttle mounted on the launch rocket upside-down. A tech is trying to delay the launch but a manager is telling him "A schedule is a schedule. Don't be coming to me now with your problems."

Too true, and the same idiots that put out crap to meet a schedule also "design" the system objectives and goals. Regardless of common sense.

Here's another one that makes me roll my eyes. In the 1990's I worked on a project for cell phones. A cell has to run flat out all the time, but people don't call all the time so there's always spare, or "free" bandwidth built into the system. The cell rates cover the cost of running at 100% but some manager wanted us to come up with a way to use the bandwidth not utilized. In short, SMS was born, AKA texting. Yup, the "free" bandwidth already paid for by each of us through our regular cell phone fees is now one of the biggest profit makers for cellular providers. At 100% profit.

Why does this not surprise me...?
And are you saying that you were involved in the creation of texting? That's it! I'm going back in time and killing your infant self! PARADOX INCOMING!

Yeah, too hot! #:-s It's bad when it comes unseasonably, jumping to 27-30C in one day right after 12C previous one.
But we're getting back to normal British weather starting from Tuesday.

It's warm here in the middle-north of the U.S. as well, unseasonably so. 27-28 C here. And unreasonably humid. I love South Dakota's normally dry climate, what we have now sucks.

And here we've been in sunny Southern California freezing our arses off with, in Celsius for you Brits, 14 and below. Damn. And don't get me started. That's damned cold for us. Someone, and I'm not saying who but, someone needs to give Al Gore a swift kick in the rearend!

Weather patterns seem to continue to be unpredictable all around. So, you're having the similar problems there 3040Krag.
And, rockingmtranch, it's even more amazing, even more than this sudden heat spike that we have here in the UK, is what you have over there... 14C and less! In Southern California!! :-o
Forget about Al Gore, he has proved to be a just big show but no substance. In order to grab attention after his defeat in Presidential elections, he has jumped to the Global Warming sing-a-long and they grabbed him because he was a big fish with a lot of money.

I live in an area that has always had extremes in weather. While not the Alps, in the Black Hills of South Dakota I have been in a snow fall in July, worked in -45 degree cold, experienced 120 degree days doing manual labor, sat huddled in my car while literally hundreds of lightening strikes hit all around me (some within a few meters), witnessed 2 inch per hour snowstorms that lasted two days, trudged to the grocers during a blizzard white-out and have been within about 100 meters of a tornado.

LOL, we never have any "normal" weather here! The native Lakota must have been quite adaptable and durable to withstand the weather without modern conveniences!

You're having a good time, rock :-bd, well-done steak, shopping and casinos, full works. Happy birthday again. I have a feeling that you're approaching this gambling thing with a military planning and precision, knowing what to play and get what and when, sort of thing; not everyone can manage this.

Balious, that's good entertainment as well. Everything is fine as long as you feel happy and surrounded by people who cares about you.
I remember my celebration of my 20th birthday; I was in the university, away from home, I celebrated alone at the Uni's cafe (many friends' courses had already ended a few weeks ago) having a slice of cake and a cup of coffee, oh, a bowl of lentil soup as well, coz I was hungry and their lentil soup was superb. :D
