as you progress and get certain missions completed, the ammo will get slightly cheaper :thumbleft:

Nightwatch wrote:Welcome to the mod and to the forum clavell101 :) And thank you for your compliments towards both the mod and the forum. Everybody is great here.

I'm glad that you're enjoying the mod. :thumbright: If you keep track of your progress in the game by photos, it'll help you get on to the "Players Corner" on the Mod's Website.

Thanks :thumbright:
I've got to Cordon now after making a detour by the bar after DV, Attacking the military post is not a walk in the park. I hate those helis. :)
I'm stuck in that wooded area (where you kill the boars for wolf) I'm inching my way after each reload lol, I'll be there by tomorrow, I hope. :D

PS: I'll be taking photos, I want to be on the Players Corner asap :0
edit2: taking photos are more difficult than I thought, enemy (or the mutants) don't wait for me lol, but I'll manage.

Hey EggChen
I played the mod yesterday, for pre-relase check-runs, I must tell you that new water texture that you did looks brilliant, the longer you look at it the better it looks. Particularly walking in the water now has a much appealing effect. Also the asphalt textures that you imported from Clear Sky is again brilliant. :thumbright:
I had previously checked the armours, but seeing them once again makes you as if looking something you haven't seen before. Top work as always , Thanks :thumbright:

I can only take credit for finding you the CS textures, and the water was a very simple tweak, but glad you like them all :salute:

Thank you, this is such a "thumbsup" for the mod fiznerpin1962  I'm on final test run, one or two things to tweak meanwhile, hopefully I can estimate something like next weekend, if everything in life goes as planned. :)

Hey Nightwatch, quick question...

When you destroy an APC in NEWSA, after the initial explosion, do you get a long lasting smoke and sparks from the debris?? Example below, sorry its not a close up!! I circled the effect...

The lack of decent non-console-type games without stupid DRM has got me back screwing around with SHOC!! I'm currently spawning APC's...

Anyway, it seems to have an origin which is about 1 metre above ground level, burns for ages with no visible source, and then dissapears very harshly... I'm going to see what I can do with it, will share it with you if NEWSA has the same problem.

Also, the APCs share the same texture with the static APCs rotting in the zone, I have already fixed that so that "live" APCs look like they are working military vehicles... I will send you that as well.

Just as asked, it has come to my attention... yes, in this mod, too, the fire and smoke actually last quite a long time over the almost disappeared debris of an APC. In fact, same happens on chopper crash sites as well.
It'll be great if you see a way to improve the situation. :)

The new "Operational APC look" textures that you've done is also excellent news. I'd be very pleased to be able to apply them onto those rotting vehicles. : Thanks. :thumbright:

(You say you're spawning APCs, you mean the "vehicle" ones, or the "active turret" ones, those shoot you on sight? :) )

The active turret ones.... I'm beefing up a few military checkpoints in the zone!! I figure raiding the blockpost should not be too easy! I don't like driveable vehicles in the zone, no map is really big enough, and they just don't feel right!!

Anyway, back to the APCs, what I have done is hack a mesh to use an existing SHOC texture. There are textures for an APC left in the zone, rusting and useless, and then there was a "new" texture that was not used at all. So it seems that "live" APC's are spawned using a certain mesh, so I have altered this mesh to point at the "new" texture....

Here you go :

Looks great :thumbright: And also great catch and attention to the detail, frankly I hadn't noticed that theer were so much starkly visual "worn-out" difference between the live and abandoned ACPs. We can definitely use that in the mod. :)

You would not have noticed buddy, the bottom texture is not used in vanilla, and I doubt it is in NEWSA. Seems both "dead" and "alive" APC meshes pointed at the top texture.

I have also just discovered it is the same for the Heli, the texture used is the same for those rusting on the ground and even has dead pilots flying it!! Of course rarely will anyone get close enough to see... Anyway again, there is an unused "new" heli texture. This one is a bit different to the APC though as I cannot (yet) find a different mesh in use, I think they use the same one. I can always hack a new one though.

Will send you a little "patch" in next few days, with live and dead military vehicles and tweaking the smoke (which I think I have nailed).

You know the parts of a downed chopper? I can make them never dissapear if you want... I think they will stay until you switch level, still testing this. I found the auto-remove settings while screwing around... You want that as well?

Another oddity, have you ever noticed this?

After you destroy an APC there is a light that sits in its place for about 30 seconds after the debris has gone!! I'm trying to work out what causes this, do you get it in NEWSA?

Image

Edit: I have managed to fix the smoke.

Yes, it'd be nice to keep the chopper debris to say on the site until the level is left.

About the light that remains on the crash site: as said before, you're very careful indeed, I hadn't noticed that much before until you pointed out; yes I think I remember that a light source remains visible after the debris dissappears, yes, I have it on videos as well, I think it's that.

You removed the smoke? Great news.. :thumbright:

I have not removed the smoke altogether, but altered it so it only plays as long as the main detonation... so it's still there but is gone by the time the flames die out.

The chopper parts is tested and confirmed, they stay on the ground as long as you are on the level, and as they are physical objects you can even use them as cover. I've seen a Boar run into one when he charged me, and the parts stop bullets. They do dissapear when you leave the level, so no problem with lag after shooting down hundreds of choppers... (I'm looking at you audioave10).

As for the light, I can't work it out, and think it is a bug. It does not happen every time, and I think it is when you kill an APC as it is firing, the muzzle flash gets stuck on until the object is completely removed by the engine. I'm going to try disabling the muzzle flash to see if that works, but then you will lose the light that should be there when he is firing... thoughts?

Also (I can't help myself) I have noticed the destruction of an APC leaves car parts on the ground, including a couple of car wheels!! Maybe they shrink on combustion, I don't know... I'll have a look at that next.

It'll be another good step removing the lingering smoke over the already disappeared SPC/heli debris, and it has, as I heard :thumbright:

I think you're right about the light (that greenish light) that also lingers over the debris, It looks like a bug that may be difficult to remove, as you point out, without hurting the muzzle-fire animation. Well, actually, the residual light over the debris is more acceptable than smoke, after all, (human) logic can agree that due to the remaining heat on the scene, a light effect may continue to stay for a bit longer. We need a fireman to consult maybe :)

Also, yes the wheels... I know, always the game throws some car wheels after the explosion. :) (maybe devs got a bit too much vodka that day, you know, during an innicent and necessary experiment, while testing if it really helps against radiation and stuff, as they put it like that into the game :D -hey, just joking, you know :) )
